Train numbers 15483 up and 15484 down running between North Bengal and Eastern Bihar is the Mahananda Express that is operated by North East Frontier Railways. This train has been named after the famous Mahananda River which runs through Bengal and parts of Eastern Bihar and thus sometimes the train even crosses this gigantic river 5 times.
This train was initially brought in to run between Dalhi and Katihar having a completely different train numbers, which was later extended up to New Jalpaiguri. Finally, it has been extended to Alipurduar Junction.
This runs on both electric and diesel locomotives with WDP4/WDP4B from the Siliguri Diesel Loco Shed for the non – electrified territory and with WAP 4 electric locomotive in the electrified section.
This train connects between the Eastern and Northern regions as well as parts of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh areas. Starting from the Alipurduar Junction, the train covers 55 stations and stops at last at the Old Delhi Railway Station.
