Itarsi is often considered as a commercial hub due to the agricultural goods produced there, along with the fame gathered by its popular railway junction. Itarsi derives its name from an amalgamation of two things, from "intt" meaning "brick" and "rassi" meaning "rope". These two items would be the city's two prime exports.
