1. Prawn Malai Curry – A mild curry made with cream, coconut milk and prawns is truly delicious. This dish is served with hot steaming rice! You really don’t need to add anything when eating this.
- Chicken Palak Curry – Curries are quite popular in Rourkela. People prefer having less roti and sabzi in the city. The dish is called murg saagwala, so mention this name when you place an order for this incredible chicken delight. Boneless chicken is cooked in spinach gravy, which is spiced and further advanced with peppercorns, onions, garlic, cumin powder, tomatoes, salt, etc. The curry is a little thick in consistency and you can eat it with roti too.
- Dalma – It is a mix of different vegetables and dals put together to create a scrumptious sabzi. Dalma consists of potatoes, drumsticks, papita, arbi, raw bananas, pumpkin, arbi, brinjal and many other ingredients. The main dal used in this dish is pigeon pea. The dal enhances the entire taste of this dish and like you can see, this sabzi is quite healthy!
- Maccha Ghanta – This dish is made all across Odisha during the Durga Ashtmi festival. It is made with fish pieces, onions, potatoes, eggplants, Bengal gram and several other ingredients. It is not a spicy dish but has various flavours in it. Fish lovers will enjoy eating this dish as it is quite different than what a fish curry tastes.
- Chungdi Malai –If you have been to Bengal, then you have probably tasted this dish before. It a mixture of prawns made in cream. The milk cream is absorbed well by the prawns in the dish and coconut milk tops the flavours. It tastes delicious with steamed rice or fried rice.
- Malpua – This is that one dish, you will find all around in Orissa without fail. It is basically the Indian styled pancakes. It is a sweet wheat flour batter made into a shape and then fried. It is also offered to god at Puri in Orrisa.
- Khechadi – You can also call this dish Khichdi. This is yet another dish which is offered to god at the Jagannath Temple. It is made with rice and lentils in ghee. It has a simple flavour but it is quite tasty. The rice and lentils are soaked well together before they are cooked so that they are soft and easy to eat. This is basically the Oriya version of the simple khichdi, which is recreated in several ways all across India.
