Places to visit here while traveling
Gorakhnath Temple: The most visited place of this region. It was named after Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath, who was said to achieve nirvana by meditating here. This temple was partly demolished when Mughal emperors ruled here but was reconstructed again later. The most attractive place of this temple is the Garbha Griha where one gets to see the painting of Gorakhnath praying to Lord Shiva. Apart from that, it also has a Manassarovar pond nearby.
Imambara: It is a Dargah, which is situated about 2 kilometers away from the Gorakhpur railway station. It is an 18th century construction, which is a shrine of the sufi saint named Roshan Ali Shah. This is a holy place and a lot of pilgrims visit there throughout the year.
Gita Press: One of the largest publishers of India publishing the Hindu religious texts. Founded in the year 1932 by Jaya Dayal Goyandka , this press was found to promote the principles of Sanatan Dharma. This press has an art gallery, which contains around 700 paintings displaying Shri Ram and Shri Krishna Leela. The 700 verses of Bhagava Gita are engraved in the marble plaques of the walls of this press.
