Traveling With Kids in Railways…? This Is For You…!

Traveling With Kids in Railways

Are you travelling with the kids in trains? If yes, do make sure to be aware of all revised rules as per the Indian Railways department when it comes to travelling with the kids of different age group. No doubt, while travelling with kids, people need to think and do consider factors of different sorts related to their health, meal and so. As per earlier defined rules, free services are been offered by the railways for kids below 5 years of age in all trains. The kids falling in between 5 to 12 years of age are charged with half of the adult fee in trains and they can claim for the berth as well. The premium trains including Shatabdis and Rajdhanis were offering free meal to those kids as well. Though, as per the revised rules that got effective from April, 2016, children from 5 to 12 years of age cannot claim for a berth, unless full ticket has been bought. Also, it was stated that it is absolutely not mandatory for children to buy a full ticket as well as they can opt for half ticket only and opt out for berths. In this way, they not only hold to half tickets on one end but on the other opt out for berths on the other. So, do make sure to be apprehended with all these rules and commotions especially if you are going to travel with your little ones this time and make sure you have no hassle left for the last minute of time.

We have to accept that Indian railway is running through the transformation phase in the recent past years. Slowly and steadily, the age old rules and regulations are being reformed to meet the existing demands of the customers. Modernization has crept into railways like never before. A few noteworthy aspects in this context are introduction of high speed trains, digitalizing the entire ticketing system, providing free internet access to its passengers and luxury trains aiming tourists. However, all these projects require huge investment. The railways have cleverly started to squeeze the revenue out of the existing system by making a few changes. One such modification is to revise the ticketing rules for children under age group of 5 to 12 years.  Check out more about this rule here under:

Existing rule: The existing rules provide free service to kids less than 5 years of age in all the trains. The children falling under the age group 5 to 12 years will be charged half the fare charged for adults. Despite paying only the half prices, these children can avail the berth. Rajadhani and Shatabdi trains are providing free food for children below 5 years of age.

Revised rule: The revised rule will be effective in all trains from 22nd of April 2016.  The revised rule states that children can’t avail a berth unless full ticket is issued. The revised rule is confined only to this category of passengers. However, it is not mandatory that the children of 5 to 12 years should necessarily purchase the full ticket. Passengers will always have a choice to opt for a berth or not. The assumption is that the passengers are most likely to stick to half tickets rather than going for berths. The railways can have the following benefits on successful implementation of this rule:

  • Railways can add about 20 million additional berths every year without having to incur any additional budget. In the year of 2014-2015 about 2.1 crore passengers of this age group availed this benefit of having berth for half ticket.
  • The capacity of trains can be increased to 20 million additional passengers, which includes women and senior citizens. This is equivalent to running 54 additional trains every day.
  • The total accommodation of the railways can be used to its fullest capacity.
  • Above all, a significant growth in the revenue of the railways can be witnessed.

IRCTC train availability

The railways are expecting an additional income of 525 crores of rupees annually solely because of this new rule. This additional income generated will help the railways to implement their plans like running new trains, designing attractive interiors and rendering quality services. Moreover, it also increases the passenger transport capacity of the trains. When you check out for IRCTC train availability, IRCTC seat availability, make sure to remember this new rule.

Such steps taken by the railways will help the department to make optimum use of its own resources. However, measures have to be taken so that the false claims regarding age of children are averted. The railways have to wait for a short time to know the passengers approach towards this new rule.

Child Train Fare age limit

And your requirement would be full filled if you will choose to go by Train. Train is the most comfortable, affordable& relaxing medium of transport in which you no need to worry about anything. Journey with Child in Train:

Have you been travelling with kids in train? If yes, do make sure to go through all the revised rules and regulations in accord to Indian Railways when you are travelling with kids of different age groups. It is understandable that while travelling with kids and children require consideration of different constraints depending on their meal chart, health and other preferences. In accord to the norms, free services will be provided to all kids who are below 5 years of age. The kids who age in between 5 years to 12 years will be charged full as of adult and will be allotted a full berth for the travel. This rule is specifically applicable while travelling in the superfast trains, Shatabdis and Rajdhanis and more. Well, this rule is meant for only them who want a separate seat for their kids to travel whereas in unreserved classes if the seat is not required individually, then half of the adult fare will be charged. There is a choice to all passengers to opt for the berth or not in such cases. So, know about these rules and travel with full knowledge and with ease.

As per the Indian Railway Child Fare rules which was announced since 2016, the revised rule says if your children is in between 5 to 12 yrs, you have to pay fare for the full ticket ,if opt for dedicated seat or berth, full adult fare shall be charged. This rule especially applied in superfast express trains & Rajdhani etc. This new change is applicable only for those who wish to have a separate &dedicated seat/berth for their children between 5 and 12 years in the reserved class. This change will not have any impact on the bookings done in unreserved classes. Actual age of fare is 5 yrs. Kids under 5 years are free of charge in all the trains. If child’s age in between (5-12 yrs) than half of the adult fare will be charged, and if you’ll asking for dedicated berth then full adult fare has to pay in this case & it is applicable only in reserved class .

Indian Railways achieve two goals with this new rule. One is to increase its revenues and the second is to increase the availability of berths without increasing trains numbers.

Protect your pride- Indian Railways

Indian railways structure is becoming old day by day. The creaking structure has too many loopholes which have to be cured and taken care off immediately. Regular accidents are happening and passengers are getting worried to travel by the train. Besides the facility to track train in India, one has to know the loopholes that are becoming evident in the infrastructure day by day. Railway is a pride for all the Indians. We should protect it and make it beautiful so that people can boast about it.

In order to make things normal, the railway ministers are working on a project, which is known as Rashtriya Rail Sangraksha Kosh. It has arranged a sum total of around Rs1, 10,239 crore to build up the falling giant structure of Indian railways.

But what is the procedure of maintenance and what should be given priority? There is a six member committee put up by the railway ministry to plan a scheme, which will raise funds and they will make a list of what should be repaired and constructed to make the railways more convenient. They will get a lot of funding from the Finance Ministry, which will help the committee to plan and build more level crossings, advanced signaling systems and modern telecom structures, which will make the communication system easier leading to less accidents and misinterpretations.

1_track_my_trainMany mechanical, civil and electrical engineers are needed to develop the infrastructure in a modern way. To make things up to date, a number of engineers have to be appointed and more funds are needed to aid their salary. For that, the committee needs to make a valid proposal and send it to the Financial Ministry so that they can help them further. If the Finance Ministry is convinced enough, there will be desired amount of funds to make things fall into places.

The present situation of Indian railway is not in a very good condition. In the present year, there have been eight accidents only because of derailments. Trains get derailed because of the poor condition of rail tracks. These are needed to be repaired immediately.

The main purpose of Rashtriya Rail Sangraksha Kosh is to arrange money and develop the railway infrastructure. It has to have a corpus of at least 1, 10,239 crore rupees, which are needed for the up gradation. This is for strengthening the rail and safety infrastructure. This is because regular train accidents are claiming innocent lives. People are not confident anymore to avail a train for travelling from one place to another. To bring back this confidence, the railway ministry should improve all the railway tracks and signaling system so that regular accidents due to mis-signaling can be avoided.

We all know that Indian Railway is such a big network and it is very difficult to maintain every nooks and corner of it. But the ministry has to be cautious. The regular mishaps that are occurring due to bad infrastructure should be avoided and to be taken very seriously.

Unreserved Second Class Compartment(GS):- Indian Railways is an integral part of Indian transportation network. It acts as a backbone for tourism, travel and economic development of India. The most important feature of this system is that it is accessible for all sections of the society whether rich or poor. Serving as the lifeline, it serves the majority of the population to travel from one place to another and has become an integral part of our daily lives. Irrespective of the economic condition of an individual, Indian Railways have options for everyone to commute anywhere in India.

The two main categories of ticket system in India are basically reserved and unreserved. Reserved class is for the ones who travel with a prior reservation allotted to them, i.e. they are given a specific berth in a compartment during their journey and they have their own seat. The others have a general ticket that is known as the unreserved. They are on their own as they have to find a seat or just a place to sit during their journey in a specific compartment or coach. There is no specific rule about seat confirmation and hence it is called the unreserved class.

The unreserved second class compartment has wooden seats that are not comfortable enough for long journeys and the condition related to cleanliness and hygiene is really poor. There is a large difference between the reserved and the unreserved compartments. Overcrowding is a common problem that one faces in the unreserved second class compartment and the journey is tiring as well as unhygienic.
