Earlier, a WDM 3A loco of Mughalsarai or Jhansi hauled the train throughout its journey due to lack of electrification in majority of the stretch. But with electrification in progress, the train is presently hauled by WAP 4 of Kanpur shed between Varanasi and Prayagraj Jn. and WDM 3A or WDP 4 from Gwalior to Jhansi.
