Maddur town is located on the bank of the Shimsha River in Karnataka’s Mandya district. Known for its tender coconut cultivation, Maddur dispatches 300 trucks of coconuts every day to Punjab, Maharashtra and West Bengal. It is called the tender coconut capital of India.

Maddur Railway Station (station code MAD) of the South Western Railway is located in the Bangalore division. Its neighbourhood stations are Nidaghatta and Hanakere. It has three platforms and at least 19 trains operate from the station with seven express trains stopping at the station. The Special Dish from Maddur –

Maddur vada is named after the town. Onions and rava bring to Maddur vada its distinctive taste and flavour. Its ingredients include rice flour, maida, semolina, curry leaves, sliced onion, grated coconut and asafoetida. The ingredients are sauté in oil and made into soft dough by adding water. A small amount of dough is patted into a vada and is deep fried to golden-brown colour and is famous in the entire country.
