Manduadih Railway Station
Munduadih (codenamed MUV) railway station is located close to Varanasi Cantt Railway station and was built in 1913. The station is along the Chhapra –Varanasi- Allahabad line and was converted to broad gauge only in 1994. This station is the gateway for Northern Eastern Railway and falls under the administrative control of Northern Eastern Railway of Varanasi Railway Station. Mughal Sarai Junction
Just 8 kilometres from Varanasi Junction, Mughal Sarai Junction (codenamed MGS) is the fourth busiest railway junction in India and is Asia’s biggest railway marshalling yard. The station was built in 1862 to connect the banks of Ganges. However, the station was linked to Varanasi in 1887 through the landmark Dufferin Bridge across the Ganges. Mughal Sarai Station was set up to be a satellite station to handle the passenger traffic at the Varanasi Cantt Railway station. Over the years, the station with eight platforms has become one of the top hundred booking stations in India. The facilities provided at the station have grown in number, and today even houses bank ATM machines with good quality rented dormitories for passengers. The station runs many long distance trains and is the preferred location to board than Varanasi Cantt Railway station.
The Marshalling yard was electrified in 1963, and this is also the largest wagon repair workshop for Indian Railways. The 12.5 Kilometres long yard can handle 1500 wagons daily and is home to the largest diesel locomotive shed in the country.
