Brick, ropes and a whole lot of food - Itarsi!

In the hearth of Madhya Pradesh, lies a city just south of Hoshangabad, the magnificent Itarsi. Itarsi is often considered as a commercial hub due to the agricultural goods produced there, along with the fame gathered by its popular railway junction. It also builds several products for the Indian Armed Forces.

Itarsi derives its name from an amalgamation of two things, from "intt" meaning "brick" and "rassi" meaning "rope". These two items would be the city's two prime exports. Now days however, the iconic "intt" and "rassi" have been replaced by a successful plywood factory. Since then, many new industries have risen near the town including the ordnance factory and soya oil mills.

Itarsi happens to be one of India's major railway junctions, crossing important routes such as east-west and north-south. Itis part of the West Central Railway zone, whose headquarters happen to be in Jabalpur.

The Indian Railway services from Mumbai to Patna and Delhi to Chennai pass through Itarsi. An estimate of at least 250 trains per day pass by. Interestingly, Itarsi runs only one express train the 'VindhyachalExpress', that uses three passenger trains on the Jabalpur route daily. This happens to be one of the busiest railway stations in the whole Bhopal division. Two new platforms 6 and 7 opened specially for Jabalpur, Nagpur and Bhusawal routes.

Because of this, the station often encounters a lot of passengers. And providing food often seems to be a gargantuan task. However, with the introduction of Travelkhana, a lot of customers now choose to have their meals delivered to them right to their train seats.

Travelkhana, as a service, provides an alternate choice for passengers who choose to opt for a healthier and more hygienic meal as compared to train food.

You can order a meal from the following two restaurants while passing via Itarsi:

Just eat - Minimum order INR 150/-

Itarsi food Express - Minimum order INR 300/-

Order have to be placed at least half an hour before the train's arrival at the station, and upon reaching, it will be delivered fresh and right to your train seat.

All one has to do is log on to the Travelkhana website or download the app, enter he PNR number and enjoy a scrumptious meal!
