Trains Fare Type of Indian Railway
- Humsafar Express – There are 58 Humsafar express trains running as of now and each one of them has 3 AC sleeper class trains, designed by the Indian Railways. Their operations cover long haul routes. The fare in them is slightly cheaper as compared to first class and AC 2 tier, and lacks some privacy too. Three tiers of bunks are available including lower, middle and upper, arranged in bays of six. For train 22986, the fare in general quota is Rs. 1,100 and in tatkal it changes to Rs. 1,815.
- Tejas Express – They are India’s first semi high speed fully AC functioning trains introduced by Railways. Counted among the fastest running trains in the country, the coaches are manufactured at RCF and ICF. There are 14 non executive chair cars available in the trains and the fare in general quota for train 22119 Tejas express is Rs. 1,450 in CC and Rs. 3,205 in EC. In tatkal quota, it changes to Rs. 1,795 in CC and Rs. 3,550 in EC.
- Rajdhani Express – Counted as a series of express passenger train services operated by Railways, these get the highest priority on the Railway network. At present, there are 23 active operational Rajdhanis connecting New Delhi and other different states. For train 12423 Rajdhani express, it has first class AC, second tier AC and third tier AC coaches and the fare in general quota is Rs. 6,910 for 1A, Rs. 4,290 for 2A and Rs. 2,980 for 3A. The fare changes to Rs. 5,950 in 2A and Rs. 4,225 in 3A in tatkal quota.
- Garib Rath – Also famously known as Poor People’s train, this air conditioned train is started by Railways for those who cannot afford regular fares of AC class in other trains. As of now, there are 26 active Garib Raths that are operational as of now in India. Just for train 12187 Garib Rath, it has 3A coaches available and the fare in general quota is Rs. 855 and in tatkal quota, the fare changes to Rs. 1,170.
- Express/Mail – Providing regular express rail services across the country, they stop by at small number of stops and their running speed is quiet high because of the same. Just for the train 13257 express mail, it has general unreserved class of coaches. In general quota, the fare is Rs. 255 and from a child, Rs. 130 is charged and applicable.
Components of Indian Railways Trains fare The key components that are included in calculating Indian Railways trains fare are base fare, reservation charge, superfast charge, tatkal charge, catering charge, GST and dynamic charge. Reservation charge for AC I Tier is Rs. 60, for AC II tier is Rs. 50, for AC III tier is Rs. 40, for sleeper SL is Rs. 20 and for second seating 2S is Rs. 15. The superfast charge for AC I Tier is Rs. 75, for AC II tier is Rs. 45, for AC III tier is Rs. 45, for sleeper SL is Rs. 30, for second seating 2S is Rs. 15 and for general ticket is Rs. 15. The tatkal fare is 30% fare of base fare and for 2S the minimum and maximum tatkal charges that could be applied is Rs. 10 and Rs. 15, for sleeper it is Rs. 100 and Rs. 200, for AC Chair Car it is Rs. 125 and Rs. 225, for AC 3 tier it is Rs. 300 and Rs. 400, for AC 2 tier it is Rs. 400 and Rs. 500, for executive it is Rs. 400 and Rs. 500. 5% GST is charged on all AC classes and GST means addition of base fare, reservation charge, superfast charge and dynamic fare if it is applicable.
Indian Railways Fare discounts - Senior Citizen Female – Females of minimum 58 years of age are allowed 50% concession in the fares of all classes of trains including Rajdhani/ Mail/ Express/ Shatabdi/ Duronto/ Jan Shatabdi.
- Senior Citizen Male – Males of minimum 60 years of age are allowed with 40% concession in the fares of all classes of trains including Rajdhani/ Mail/ Express/ Shatabdi/ Duronto/ Jan Shatabdi.
- Student – The concession tickets for students are allowed only in second seating 2S and SL sleeper class category. As of now, it is not allowed on e-tickets. In General category, it is 50% in 2S and 50% in MST and QST in SL class. In SC/ST category, it is 75% in both classes of travel.
- Doctor – For all allopathic travelling due to any of the reason, they get 10% discount in all classes and in all trains including Jan Shatabdi/ Shatabdi and Rajdhanis. For midwives and nurses if they are on leave or duty, they get 25% concession in second and sleeper class in all trains.
How does dynamic fare work? Indian Railway Ministry have decided to introduce the dynamic fare pricing that is the flexi fare system in all Duronto/ Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains. The base fare for these trains will be on flexi fare system as per which it will increase by 10% with every 10% of berths sold as per the prescribed ceiling limit. There will be no change as such in the existing fare for EC and 1 AC class of travel. The other supplementary charges such as catering charge, superfast charge, service tax and others will be applied separately. The vacant berths available at the time of charting will be provided for current booking. Normal concession is applicable as required in the base fare of the ticket. The refund rules are the same for every class of travel.
