Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, Minister of Railways has announced third party audit report based on the station hygiene and cleanliness and has also inaugurated Swachh rail portal. To grace the occasion, Shri Rajen Gohain, Minister of State for Indian Railways was present especially along with other reckoned members, senior officials including Chairman of Railway board that is Shri A.K. Mittal, Shri Adil Zainulbhai, Shri Ravindra Gupta, Shri A K Tewari to conduct the proceedings. Swachh rail portal is been dedicated and focused entirely to keep an eye on the rankings of trains and stations based upon its cleanliness and neatness. The web portal that is available at railswachh.in is been designed and developed to leverage the passenger feedback on a consistent basis on the parameters of cleanliness.
Speaking about the occasion, as per Suresh Prabhu, Indian Railways began third party cleanliness index of stations from last fiscal, and within a year, tremendous improvement could be seen in terms of cleanliness and Indian Railways has even attained a significant improvisation in the same at each station all across. The index and Swachh Bharat rail portal actually installed a competent and high spirit among the stations as well as among visitors and passengers having intent to keep the station clean and neat. Railways took the initiative seriously and moved forward an extra mile too wherever needed to keep the stations clean and the major objective and focus is on coach cleanliness, platform cleanliness, tracks cleanliness and above all toilet cleanliness in the coaches. Even, they started ‘Clean my Coach’ services that got simply an overwhelming and amazing experience from the passengers too and four green corridors are been marked in order to be free from human waste discharge and removal. He also stated and urged from all the municipal corporations of the cities and towns to come forward, join the initiative and cooperate their best level to eliminate human waste from the tracks and so. Vishakhapatnam has been the top list winner as per cleanliness index and secured 1st position in A1 category, followed by Beas, Guwahati, Varanasi, Mughal Sarai, Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations in the list. He also added that a lot of NGO students and other youth groups have taken the initiative to come forward in order to clean and make stations a better place altogether.
