12617 Mangala Lakshadweep Express is the second longest running Superfast Express train. Run by the Southern Railway on a Daily basis, it does 3066 kilometres in 49 hours at an operating speed of 63 km/ h. It departs Eranakulam Junction in Kochi, Kerela, at 13:15 (please check timings during Monsoon) to arrive Hazrat Nizamuddin, New Delhi at 13:15 on the third day.
The coaches include – three AC II Tier; four AC III Tier, eleven Sleeper, two General and two Second-class Luggage/parcel vans.
This is the second train (besides Kerela Express) that connects Kerela with the National Capital Region.
Did you know that this train earlier ran just between Mangalore (now Mangaluru) and Delhi? Yes! That’s also how it got its name, inspired by the locally worshipped deity Mangladevi. Once Konkan Railway started, the railway network was extended from/ to Eranakulam Junction increasing its reach. This train gives a direct access to Delhi and has proved to be a blessing to travellers from North Kerela and Coastal districts of Karnataka.
